Today, we are singing the praises of Megan Milner, founder of Megan Daisy Milner Art. She reached out to us last fall about creating some updated imagery for her business and, y’all, we could not have been more excited!
Megan Daisy Milner is a self-taught artist who strives to create work that sparks joy and life in the viewer. She creates out of her home studio where she has frequent two- and four-legged visitors that provide creative inspiration. (You’ll get a glimpse of that in some of the images below.) After graduating from North Carolina State University’s College of Textiles she attended The University of South Carolina School of Law. Although her path to becoming a professional artist was a winding one she has always enjoyed creative pursuits. She works in acrylics, oil pastels and charcoal to create colorful works that make a statement in any space. Her artwork is full of bold brushstrokes and color.
SIDE NOTE: We don’t have our own studio yet, but you can rest assured that we will be purchasing some of her work to bring life to our walls when we do!
Megan began to put her textile degree to good use in 2021 when she created textiles to use in her own home. These textiles are created from her original paintings. She had so much fun creating textiles for herself she decided to start offering them to the public. Creating textiles has become another creative outlet for Megan and a way for her to express her love of interiors.
Our goal for this shoot was to create images that reflected Megan’s creativity and passion for bringing joy to the homes of her clients through her work as well as images that give a peek into her process. We also strove to provide images and videography that demonstrated the universal nature of her art and textiles. Megan wants to covey to her audience that her art and textiles work in a variety of rooms and home styles.
We were able to create the images for Megan in her home and beautifully lit, color-filled studio. And, y’all, we weren’t even half-way through the shoot before we were just drooling over the images!
But, enough about what WE think! Let’s let you hear directly from Megan. We asked her a series of questions designed to help our audience get to know her better, specifically as a small business owner. Here’s what she had to say:
What does your company do? What makes your service or product unique and notable? Creates one of a kind art.
What inspired you to create your business? What draws you to the clients you serve? What would you like to share about the impact you hope to have? I was born to create – I can’t help it! I’m so thankful people want to purchase what I create. It is such a blessing.
Are there any resources or assets (software, apps, courses, etc) that have really helped you uplevel your business? Shopify!
What would you say is the main thing that has helped you grow your business? This could be a personality trait, a mindset, an event, etc. Cancel out the noise of what everyone else is doing and keep your heads down. Do your thing. Not everyone will like it, but it will bring you joy and keep you from going crazy!
If you started your business over today, what would you focus on first to help you grow? Painting always comes first. The business is second.
What is the best business advice you have ever been given? Meet with as many people as you can to talk about challenges and opportunities. I am always an open book when artists want to chat because so many people have helped me along the way.
